Nerd Wars! An Introduction…

It’s day 2 of round 2 of Tournament 9 of Nerd Wars!

For those crafters out there who don’t know about Nerd Wars on Ravelry, now is the time to find out!

Nerd Wars is a knitting, crocheting, weaving and spinning friendly competition in which:

Teams from different nerderies compete through completing projects that answer different challenges each month for points and glory. The ambitious can take a whack at a 3-month-long project called a dissertation for tons of points, and we’ve got some other extra curricular activities thrown in for more fun!

I participated in T7 as a part of Team TARDIS (celebrating everything Doctor Who), in T8 as a Ninja Warrior (meaning I didn’t have a team and went rogue for 3 months) and no, in T9, I am a part of Team Fish Biscuit (celebrating all things LOST related). It’s been a lot of fun, and a new month means new challenges to meet! I have at least 2 baby projects for friends (one with a 2 month-old, one almost at her due date), a cowl I’m working on for me, a half finished watch cap for Frank, and a few other things I’d love to get under way – not to mention the epic scarf I’ve been working on inspired by Christina Ricci’s scarf in Penelope (yes, I’m a dork. yes, I’m comfortable with that).

So, here are the challenges this month, and I must do my bet to rise to them!

Challenge (Discovery): CHEMICAL COLORS
Craft something in the colours of the carotenoids (the yellows, oranges and browns) and the anthocyanins (reds and purples).
Challenge (Giving Geeks): THE SMALLEST AMONG US
“A person’s a person, no matter how small.” Dr. Suess.
Children are often the most vulnerable in society. They do not have the resources to care for themselves, so must rely on others to help them. Show the smallest among us that you care. Give to a group that brings joy or help to children in need.
Challenge (Encyclopedia): VOLUME C: COVER VERSION
In popular music, a cover version or cover song is a new performance or recording of a previously recorded song. This may mean an artist performing a different rendition of another artist’s track, or an artist creating a different version of their own track (such as with MTV Unplugged).
Challenge (Nerdology): WAVE YOUR FLAG HIGH!
There is always the one moment in time that if we look back we realize we have been nerdy for a very long time. You were probably nerdy before you even realized you were nerdy. We want to know which of the other team nerdoms (not your own team nerdery) that had made you wave your nerd flag. Craft something inspired by a different team’s nerdery that brought out your flag! Wave your Nerd Flag high!!

Challenge (Flexible Schedule): THAT’S MY STORY…
November 21 is False Confession Day. Whether you did it or not, we want to hear about it! So this month to celebrate, you can make up any story you like, no matter how crazy; as long as it’s false. Craft something and share its story!
